Project Overview
The City of Rehoboth hired Corrado for the demolition of the existing city hall and site work activities associated with the new city hall expansion. EDIS served as the owner representative for this project, and Whiting Turner, under a separate contract, provided well point dewatering, support of excavation (shoring), and excavation and backfill for the basement of the new city hall.
Taking advantage of permeable soils on site, a combination of bio retention and permeable paving areas were used for stormwater control. Design elements such as multi-colored pavers maintain the spirit of the beach.
Key Challenges
The primary challenge with this project was space and sequencing. The city moved out of the existing building to on-site trailers, occupying half of the work site, effectively phasing the project in halves. Whiting Turner and Corrado worked closely to ensure the project stayed on schedule and with minimal impact to the community.
After the new building was completed and the city moved out of the trailers, Corrado was left with only three months to complete 60% of the work before winter weather would prohibit any more construction. Corrado successfully completed the project in December 2017.
