Project Overview
Glasgow Commons is a distributional warehouse park. Corrado Construction did the site prep for three new warehouse buildings, including grading, underground utilities (water, sanitary, and storm piping), directional drilling for a 12″ water main below a neighboring lake, two box culverts, two retaining walls, curb, sidewalk, soil cement, and asphalt paving.
Key Challenges
During construction, controlling storm water runoff and maintaining erosion controls was the top priority for all involved. This involved proactively building temporary sediment traps to collect and control runoff, as well as reinforcing key perimeter controls with additional stone check dams and filter logs.
Another challenge on this project was the sequence of starting the three buildings, which was reversed at the last minute. This defeated some of our preparatory work because our drainage structures and sanitary manholes were made in what ended up being the wrong order, so instead of being ahead of the curve we had to get creative to control water and sequence construction.
The final key challenge was due to the size of this project, which demanded several crews on each of the three parcels in order to stay ahead and turn over pad sites to the builder. It was also important to get the earthwork completed in the summer and fall months to avoid costly winter delays to the work.
