Project Overview
This project was located at the former site of Dover High School and required substantial demolition work before new work could commence. Corrado Construction was responsible for all standard sitework items including erosion control, earthwork, landscaping, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, waterline, concrete curb, sidewalks and pads, hot mix paving, etc. The scope of work also included the athletic track, a new turf football field, basketball courts and hoops, soccer equipment and field, baseball equipment and field, softball equipment and field, and amended topsoil for the fields, in addition to tennis courts and fencing.
Key Challenges
Many of the existing amenities were left untouched or were improved upon rather than replaced. The baseball field required minor grading and installing Diamond Tex on the field, while the softball field was completely replaced. Corrado was under contract to replace the existing track entirely but after inspection with Becker Morgan, we were able to reuse a substantial portion of the existing hot mix, which saved the school district money and produced an excellent final product.
Due to the complexities of the job, we had to coordinate with multiple contractors through RYJ to schedule when we could complete work in a specific area of the site. For example, the contractor who owned the concrete package set up on the practice football field for a large portion of the job. We worked ahead of time to ensure that, by the time we were ready to finish the earthwork on that field, they had relocated their staging to the front of the track so we had room to work. On top of coordinating with other contractors, Corrado had eleven subcontractors for this project. Due to the long duration of the job, it was a massive undertaking to coordinate and manage when our crews could have access onsite to complete their work. We provided additional value by adding a stone base for the loading dock to our contract since we were already placing the stone on both sides of the loading dock as part of our base bid contract.
