Wilmington, DE – September 21-22, 2018 – Governor Carney hosted a two-day Construction Career Expo at the Chase Center Riverfront, with the first day reserved for 1,500 area middle school students and the second day open to the public.
The Expo was an exciting opportunity for those in Delaware’s construction industry to showcase the people, talent, equipment and technology that promote growth within the business community and the state as a whole. According to Governor Carney’s office, construction is one of the fastest growing sectors in Delaware, with more than 3,500 new job openings expected through 2024.
Corrado Construction had both indoor and outdoor exhibits at the event. At our indoor booth, the big hit – especially with the kids – was the soil classification table. Students got their hands dirty and learned about the four major soil types found on most of Delaware’s job sites and how soil type impacts buildings and roads. They tried on hard hats and safety vests, climbed into a skid-steer, and examined engineering plans. Outside, we had an excavator, bulldozer, and live video streaming from our commercial drone. CCC employees were on hand to engage the students, answer questions and on day two, field inquiries from potential job applicants.
Our team did a stellar job representing CCC and the site development work that we do. Thank you to Governor Carney for the Construction Career Expo and the chance to demonstrate the many career opportunities in the site/civil construction industry.
